Physical Education Statement of Intent
Resilient Respectful Inspired Curious
Athletes at Yeadon Westfield Junior School
At Yeadon Westfield Junior School, we recognise the importance of Physical Education and the role it has to play in promoting long term, healthy lifestyles. The intent of our Physical Education curriculum is to provide all children with high quality P.E and Sports provision. It is our vision for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles.
We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging P.E lessons that are enjoyable, challenging and accessible to all. At YWJS we have a bespoke P.E curriculum which offers extensive opportunities for children to encounter multiple sports such as Orienteering, Karate and Boxercise. All children receive two hours of Physical Education each week, with one of those hours taught by an external sports provider (Velocity Sports). For one hour of their weekly allocation Year Four, are taught swimming.
We want our pupils to appreciate and be curious about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Through our teaching of PE, we will provide opportunities for pupils to develop values and transferrable life skills such as team work, communication, respect, resilience and leadership, as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport.
