THE 'THING IN THE HALL'
Our school hall was transformed into a magical world with the focus on classic children’s literature – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Jungle Book, The Enchanted Forest and The Wizard of Oz.
After months of planning, staff spent a full day creating these four worlds from scratch, all in secret. The 'Thing in the hall' was then revealed to each class one by one as they came to school the next day. As you can imagine it was a huge surprise.
The idea originated 16 years ago from a course run by Leeds Playhouse staff which exploring the use of creative environments to stimulate pupils who were reluctant writers.
During the fortnight, staff dressed as characters from the books while children carried out a whole range of exciting curriculum activities.
